70 -- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ABOUT HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE THAT WILL RUN ON A SUN PLATFORM RUNNING SOLARIS 2.4 FOR THE PURPOSE OF AUTHORING AND DUPLICATING CD-ROMS, CD-R FOR AN ANTICIPATED PURCHASE IN FY 96 Contact James K. The Virginia Contracting Activity, on behalf of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is requesting information about hardware and software that will run on a Sun platform running Solaris 2.4 for the purpose of authoring and duplicating CD-ROMS, CD-R. The hardware/software suite should make use of high speed (4X-6X) CS-ROM writers and readers for the purpose of mastering, duping, labeling and checking the quality of the CD-ROMS produced. The premastering/master software must include the capability to format the data to ISO-9600 before placement of the files on disc. The system will be normally required to produce, verify and label 10-20 CD's per day, consisting of imagery files and their meta-data in a normal workday. The CD-R system will also need capability to produce multiple copies (up to three) of the original CD and have the capability to duplicate CD's as an unattended batch job. The primary capability being sought is to duplicate or author CD-R's which will contain imagery files. Creation of multimedia CD-ROMs are of secondary importance (e.g. audio, text, imagery and image compression), but would be an asset for any software package. The preferred system will be flexible enough so it can accommodate future expansion of additional CD-writers or a CD jukebox storing data to be replicated to CD-R. Vendors submitting a response to this Sources Sought announcement are requested to send their documentation no later than Monday, 27 Nov 95 or sooner if possible.
