(202)219-1154 The Records and Information Management System RIMS is a
document management, storage and retrieval system used by FERC in
support of its mission. The current system is a hybrid of two systems,
RIMS II and RIMS III. RIMS II is a micrographic document storage and
retrieval system employing a computer assisted retrieval (CAR)
capability to locate and facilitate the retrieval of requested
documents stored on microforms. RIMS III is a document imaging system
that allows a RIMS user (from a desktop, LAN) connected PC)
to:interface to the RIMS II index for identification of a RIMS
document, then hot key to: view the document page images on screen,
and/or print some or all of the pages to a LAN printer or a high speed
printer. The RIMS III hardware (HW) and software (SW) environments
include an IBM RS/6000 Model 990 data base server running AIX and
Informix On Line SW, and Netware LAN'd IBM compatible MS Windows PC
clients running Recognition's Plexus SW, application code, and
Attachmate XTRA! 3270 emulation SW. The FERC will implement an optical
storage capability using already purchased HW (4 ATG Model 9001
optical drives and 1 Cygnet Jukebox Model 1802) and SW (Recognition's
Plexus Storage Manager and Informix's On Line Optical). Use of this
HW/SW will allow FERC's image data base to expand to 300 GB before
additional storage space is needed. Due to the limited scope and well
defined nature of the optical storage requirements, FERC sees the full
and open procurement of a fixed price contract for services to
integrate optical storage into the RIMS III application. (0312) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0422 19951109\70-0002.SOL)
