The RIMS is a document management, storage and retrieval system used by FERC in support of its mission. The current system is a hybrid which utilizes a micrographic document storage and retrieval system employing a computer assisted retrieval capability to locate and facilitate the retrieval of requested documents stored on microforms. The other aspect of the hybrid is RIMS III, which is a document-imaging system that allows a RIMS user (from a desktop, LAN connected PC) to: a) interface to the microfilm index for identification of a RIMS document, then; b) hot-key to view the document page images on-screen, and/or print some or all of the pages to a LAN printer or a high speed printer. The FERC requires to implement an optical storage capability using already purchased hardware and software. Use of this hw/sw will allow FERC's image data base to expand to 300GB before additional storage space is needed. (0312)
