A -- MOBILE ROBOT WORKSYSTEM FOR DECOMMISSIONING AND DISMANTLING (D&D) OPERATIONS POC Contact Point, Lisa A. Kuzniar, 304/285-4242; Contracting Officer, Randolph L. Kesling This synopsis is published pursuant to the requirements of Federal Acquisition Regulation Subpart 5.2 -- The Morgantown Energy Technology Center plans to negotiate and award a sole-source contract by means of other than full and open competition as permitted by 41 USC 253(c)(1) with RedZone Robotics, Inc. for a Mobile Robot Worksystem for Decommissioning and Dismantling (D&D) Operations. The purpose of this work is to use the mobile robot worksystem to dismantle the hot cell reactor vessel at the Chicago Pile Reactor (CP-5), located at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). The proposed system shall be capable of D&D of heavy equipment and the facility. At a minimum, the worksystem shall be comprised of a mobile robot with an independently driven wheel and steer motion; a hydraulic power unit which is capable of performing a number of functions at the same time; a boom which can carry 1500 lbs load at a distance of 20 feet; a control center console whichprovides a central control location for the system; tooling for the dismantling work; and a power distribution unit which allows the power and signals to be transmitted from the console to the robot and routed onboard to the various sensors and actuators. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS NOT A FORMAL SOLICITATION -- This synopsis is for planning and information purposes only, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government -- Interested firms may submit to the procuring office within forty-five (45) days of publication of this notice, written information in duplicate concerning their abilities to perform the work as described above, and which clearly shows familiarity with the described work. This information should include the following: 1) current and past experience in development and deployment of a robot worksystem for decommissioning and dismantlement work in a contaminated environment, including evidence of participation in similar work, 2) evidence of possession or access to adequate facilities for the work to be performed, and 3) a list of key personnel and their specific technical expertise. The response must reference the procurement request numbe 33207 assigned to this research effort. See Note 22. (0312)
