COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 14,1995 PSA#1472Department of the Army, New England Division, Corps of Engineers, 424
Trapelo Road, Waltham, Massachusetts 02254-9149 36 -- SELF-REGULATING TIDE GATES POC Michelle Kewer, 617-647-8414 This
is a search for sources. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England
Division, requests submissions of technical data from companies that
manufacture/market self-regulating tide gates. This data will be used
to evaluate whether or not a company's gates are similar or equal to
gates manufactured by Nekton of Fairfield, CT. The tide gates will be
installed at the entrance of a concrete box culvert leading to a tidal
salt marsh. The gates shall be equipped with floats to automatically
open and close at predetermined water elevations. The gates shall not
require electricity of any kind. The gates shall be controlled so that
they are open during an incoming tide to allow water to flow into the
marsh. The gates shall automatically close when the elevation of the
incoming tide reaches a preset level. The gates shall automatically
open when the tide recedes to allow water to flow out of the marsh. The
gates shall be adjustable in the field to permit changing the water
elevation at which the gates automatically open and close. The gates
shall be designed to prevent the gate leaf from slamming or causing
hydraulic surges within the box culvert as the gate transitions into
the closed position. The gates shall have a 6-foot-wide by
4.5-foot-high clear opening for the passage of water. The gates shall
be constructed of materials with a high resistance to the corrosive
environment of salt water. The manufacturer shall have experience in
manufacturing self-regulating tide gates and shall be capable of
demonstrating gate performance as described herein. Gate performance
shall be demonstrated using an actual gate installation. This is not a
request for proposal and the Government does not intend to pay for the
information solicited or received. The anticipated date for the release
of the solicitation that will require use of these type of gates is 15
December 1995. Any interested organization must submit appropriate
written data to allow evaluation of their product as to whether or not
their gate is similar or equal to one manufactured by NEKTON of
Fairfield, CT. within 15 days of this publication. (0313) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0302 19951113\36-0001.SOL)
