Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) intends to negotiate a sole-source
modification with the University of Maryland (UMD) under Contract No.
NRC-04-94-052 to provide for assessment of the capability of systems
and computational fluid dynamics codes to accurately model the boron
mixing experiments; and continuation of the testing services for an
additional two years. The Standard Industrial Classification Code is
8999. This contract modification is being pursued on a sole-source
basis because UMD has the only Babcock & Wilcox scaled- facility in the
world configured to conduct the required experiments. In addition, UMD
is the only organization with the required facility, the experimental
data that the NRC wishes analyzed, as well as a collection of codes
with which to do the analysis required under this contract
modification. No other source has the unique combination of
experimental facility, system and computational fluid dynamics computer
codes, and the expertise necessary to do the effort NRC requires. See
