SHUTOFF/RESTART DEVICES THAT COULD BE INSTALLED IN AND NEAR KITCHEN
RANGES TO SENSE CONDITIONS PRECEDING COOKING FIRES Under Interagency
Agreement, No. CPSC-IAG-95-1145 with the Consumer Product Safety
Commission, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
is seeking: 1. Pre-Fire Detection Devices from equipment and appliance
component manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and inventors. (NIST is
conducting tests of detection devices installed in and near kitchen
ranges to sense conditions preceding cooking fires. These conditions
include smoke particulates, hydrocarbon gases, and heat.) 2.
Information (literature and design descriptions) of Shutoff and Restart
Devices that could be applied to electric and gas kitchen ranges. (The
devices must be capable of performing their function upon receipt of
inputs signifying dangerous or safe conditions.) If you have a product
that could perform as noted under item number 1 above and are willing
to donate or sell it for testing, or if you have a product that could
perform as noted in item number 2 above and are willing to send
patented designs or general descriptions, please contact Rik Johnsson
at 301-975-3083 preferably by 12-1-95. Donated devices will not be
returned. The performance results of the tested products will be made
