Ray, Contracting Officer. Western Area Power Administration of the
Department of Energy is soliciting vendor information for possible
contract arrangement for a number of digital microwave radios. The
information provided should address whether this requirement can be met
with commercial type items, or modified commercial type items as
defined in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 2.1. Vendors are
requested to send product information that meets the following
criteria: The radio equipment shall be a current production commercial
digital microwave radio operating in the 7.125 to 8.500 GHz band.
Equipment shall have an expandable traffic carrying capacity of 1, 2,
or 3 DS3s (672 to 2016 channels); shall have standard a time domain
equalizer (TDE) and an adaptive IF equalizer to mitigate the effects of
multipath induced distortions; shall be able to work in a substation
environment; can be configured for hot-standby with space, frequency,
or quad diversity; transmitter power shall optionally be able to
operate at a continuous duty cycle of 1 watt or 2 watts. The radio
equipment shall be designed to operate from standard -24V or -48V dc
power systems; the radio system shall be capable of providing an
integral orderwire which shall include the ability to terminate the
audio channel with a handset and/or headset; the radio shall have the
capability of local alarm, status and performance monitoring display.
The display may be through the use of a laptop PC, a hand-held
terminal, or LCD or LED display panels. The radio shall provide an
interface for remote network management and control, and shall be
designed for a service life of at least 15 years. It is intended that
this acquisition will be conducted IAW FAR Part 12, therefore,
customary industry practices relating to modifying or customizing
items, warranty, financing, discounts or other contractual terms under
which commercial sales of the products are made are also requested.
