Services to design and construct a bulk alum storage tank and feed system, Building 42-930 in accordance with Specification No. SMCPB-ET-TS-1995-2 entitled ''Technical Specification for Bulk Alum Storage and Feed System, Bldg. 42-930''. Aluminum sulfate (alum) is dosed into Pine Bluff Arsenal's (PBA) industrial wastewater to support removal of dissolved metals. Currently, PBA purchases dry alum in 50 pound bags. As needed, these bags are manually cut open and dumped into a hopper of an existing feed system, which augers the dry alum into a slurry preparation tank. The alum slurry is then piped to an existing below-grade wastewater treatment pit. The current hopper feeding and augering operations generate dust. To avoid employees exposure to the alum dust, and to reduce alum costs, the alum is to be purchased as a liquid and placecd in a new tank to be designed, installed, and tested in accordance with this specification. This specification requires for mist minimization to reduce the concentration of alum mist below 1.0 cubic mg/m (as alum) at a distance of one foot from the equipment. Final acceptance will be based on system performance after installation at PBA. Operating and maintenance training covering each system component shall be provided by the Contractor for a maximum of 20 Arsenal personnel after proveout. Place of Performance: Pine Bluff Arsenal, AR 71602-9500. The magnitude of said project is between $250,000 and $500,000.
