POLLUTION EMISSIONS The following notification is being circulated in
accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/NOTIF.95.304. 1. Member to

European Commission. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products
covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff
heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable):
8703: Passenger cars; 8704: Light commercial vehicles. 5. Title and
number of pages of the notified document: Proposal for a European
Parliament and Council Directive Amending Directive 70/220/EEC on the
Approximation of the Laws of the Member States Relating to Measures to
be Taken Against Air Pollution from Emissions from Motor Vehicles (12
pages). 6. Description of content: Aligning the standards for the
light commercial and assimilated vehicles to the same level of severity
as those established for passenger cars regarding mass of carbon
monoxide, combined mass of hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen and mass
of particulates. 7. Objective and rationale: Article 4 of Directive
93/59/EEC committed the Commission to submit a proposal for a further
reduction of light commercial vehicle emission limit values. These
limit values shall be linked with the Car Emission Directive 94/12/EC
from March 1994. 8. Relevant documents: Proposed European Parliament
and Council Directive Amending Directive 70/220/EEC on the
Approximation of the Laws of the Member States Relating to Measures to
be Taken Against Air Pollution from Emissions from Motor Vehicles (EC
Official Journal C390 of 31 December 1994). 9. Proposed date of
adoption and entry into force: Adoption: December 1995. Entry into
force: March 1996. 10. Final date for comments: 22 December 1995.
