83415-3805 A -- SOFTWARE MODELS FOR CALIBRATING A PORTABLE GAMMA SPECTROSCOPY
LOGGING SYSTEM Contact Ms. Jane Clemmensen. Lockheed Martin Idaho
Technologies (LMIT), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805; a
management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the
Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL). LMIT has developed the
following technology, which is available for licensing: Portable gamma
spectroscopy logging systems are used to identify and quantify
gamma-emitting radioisotopes in the ground through boreholes. Current
practices in high resolution gamma spectroscopy well logging provide
only approximate estimates of the quantities of radioisotopes in the
subsurface. These system require an energy and efficiency calibration.
LITCO has developed computer models to estimate the effects of
geologic formation porosity and moisture content. The models exist as
ASCII text files in IBM-PC format and are used with MicroShield
software commercially available from Grove Engineering. The model files
contain information pertaining to the transport of photons through
geologic material with various porosities and moisture contents. The
energy range of photons considered is from 186 eV to 2614 keV. The
models serve as a comparison between the calibration conditions present
in the physical sources in Grand Junction, Colorado, and variations of
the source porosity and moisture content that may be encountered in
the field. Parties interested in the technology should send a written
expression of interest, information describing their company and its
capabilities in ground monitoring, and a description of the intended
use and markets for the technology. If international markets are
contemplated, the countries of interest should be listed. Send
responses to: Ms. Jane Clemmensen, Technology Transfer Office, LMIT,
P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. The closing date on this
opportunity is 30 days after publication. (324) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19951124\A-0005.SOL)
