COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 27,1995 PSA#1477Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Livermore, CA
94550 A -- LLNL SEEKS POTENTIAL SOURCES WITH WHOM TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND
SCALE UP A NEW WATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY BASED ON CAPACITIVE
DEIONIZATION (CDI) Announcement The Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under
contract with the Department of Energy, is seeking potential sources
with whom to further develop and scale up a new patented water
treatment technology based on capacitive deionization. CDI with
carbon-aerogel electrodes is an efficient and economical new process
for removing salt and impurities from water. It eliminates the waste
generation and waste treatment/disposal problems inherent in ion
exchange by substituting non-toxic and non-polluting electricity for
the acids, bases, and salts. CDI also has potential advantages with
respect to energy consumption when compared to other water desalting
process. Applications of CDI are brackish water/sea water desalination;
treatment of heat exchanger and boiler water, industrial and commercial
process water and ultra pure industrial water, reclamation of
industrial waste water, municipal waste water, mixed hazardous and/or
radioactive waste; mineral extraction; medical; domestic water
softeners and refined drinking water treat instrumentation. LLNL is
hoping to identify potential licensees for both the production of
carbon aerogel electrodes using a continuous manufacturing process and
the integration of these electrodes into packaged CDI units. If you
are interested in working with LLNL on CDI please respond in writing to
LLNL by providing the following information: (1) The name and address
of your organization; (2) the name, address, telephone, and fax of the
point of contact in your organization. Please send this information to
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, ATTN: CDI, L-795, P.O. Box 808,
Livermore, CA 94550 or fax information to 510-423-8988 ATTN: CBD
response to CDI. (0326) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0018 19951124\A-0018.SOL)
