The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project is seeking qualified firms to manufacture, build and test two (2) Instrument Support Structures for the Gemini 8-m Telescopes. A brief description of the system is given below. The manufacture of the Instrument Support Structure will require the fabrication of a large and intricate weldment (3000 Kilograms), and stress relieving and precision machining the same. Testing of the structure will include inspection to ensure adequate accuracy in the machined detail and proof loading. Two (2) complete units are required. An information package describing the above system in more detail is available from the Gemini Project Office upon request. The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project is an international collaboration to build two 8-meter telescopes, one to be located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other to be located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini project partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The Gemini project is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) under contract to the National Science Foundation.
