The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) is the contracting activity for the Ultra High Frequency Follow-On (UHF F/O) Military Satellite under SPAWAR contract N00039-88-C-0300. The Navy intends to issue sole source modifications, including options, to the existing UHF F/O contract for incorporation of the space segment of an interim GBS system into satellites F8, F9 and F10. GBS payloads have to be incorporated into the F8, F9 and F10 satellites not later than 10/1/96, 4/1/97 and 6/1/97 respectively. Each satellite will provide GBS service to one of the following three areas: Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. Initial Operational Capability (IOC) defined as service to the first of these three areas is required by the first quarter of calendar 1998. Full Operational Capability is required by the first quarter of calendar year 1999. This sole source procurement applies only to the space segment portion of the interim Global Broadcast System.
