A -- WASTE DRUM REFURBISHMENT Lockheed Idaho Technologies Company (LITCO), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. Lockheed Idaho Technologies Company, a management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL) is conducting research in the refurbishment of 55 gallon drums used for the storing of nuclear and hazardous waste. There are several such 5 gallon drums at the INEL which have deteriorated by corrosion due to the environment to which the drums have been exposed. This cooperative effort will research methods to refurbish these drums without having to remove and repackage the waste. Refurbishment of the drums should permit continued safe storage of the waste in the drums and permit eventual shipment of the drums containing the waste to the final waste storage repository. Participants will be expected to provide the technology, labor, materials, facilities and share equally in the expenses. The technology is to be developed and demonstrated on simulated waste drums. This solicitation will close thirty days from the date of publication of this notice.
