66 -- RECTILINEAR TRANSLATOR SYSTEM SOL F40650-96-R-0003 POC Alan C. Fudge, Contracting Officer, (615)454-7841. USAF/AEDC intends to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) on a sole source basis to Mission Reasearch Corp., Logan UT. The contract will procure two, 2-axis rectilinear translator systems. The translators will be located inside cryo/vacuum chamber and will be operated at room conditions as well as under cryo/vacuum conditions at pressure levels down to 10 to the negative 7 power torr and at tempertures down to 20 degrees K. The maximum load for the translators will be 25 pounds and the speed will be variable with a maximum of 3 inches per second. Thin film, molecular bonded, drylubricant iis required for all load bearing surfaces-conventional lubricants are not acceptable. The contractor will provide the two translators, translator position transducers, position readout electronics and will interface the translators to existing AEDC translator drive electronics and will interface the position readout electronics to an existing data acquisition and control system. Considering a right-hand, rectangular Cartesian coordinate system with the z-axis pointing up with respect to local gravity, the first translator system will provide independent motions in the x-axis and z-axis directions whereas the second translator system will provide independent motions in the x-axis and y-axis directions. For the first translator system, x-axis travel is 33 inches while z-axis travel is 20 inches. For the second translator system, the x-axis travel is 16 inches while the y-axis travel is 30 inches. For both translators performance requirements are : position accuracy, 0.0001 inch; position resolution, 0.0001 inch; bi-directional position repeatability, 0.0001 inch; straightness of travel, 0.00005 inch/inch; flatness of travel, 0.00005 inch/inch; and axis-to-axis orthogonality +-0.003 degrees. Conformance with performance and quality requirements for the two translator systems will be demostrated at the contractor's plant prior to acceptance by AEDC. Conformance with performance requirements will be demostrated under room conditions as well as at liquid nitrogen tempertures. Delivery of the translator systems is expected within eight (8) months following contract awad. Firms desiring to respond to this RFP must be certified and registered with Defense Logistics Service Center (DLSC), Battle Creek, MI 49016-3412 to acquire instructions for proposal preparation and contract performance. Any persons desiring consideration must contact the AEDC Contracting Officer listed above within fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis and fully identify their interest and capabilities.
