The work will include the following: (Approx. quantities) The project is located near the Missouri River mile 603, inside the privately held Fontenelle Forest, east of Bellevue, in Sarpy County, Nebraska. The project involves hydraulically dredging 656,000 cy of accumulated sediments from the site of the former Missouri River backwater called Hidden Lake and construction of an inlet/outlet structure and channel. The inlet/outlet structure will consist of three 5' x 10' gated reinforced concrete box culverts. The inlet/outlet channel will be protected with a 15' layer of stone protection. The existing backwater lake bed, about 1 mile long and up to 300 feet wide is normally dry or is inundated only during wet events. The dredging will restore a lake 5-6 feet deep connected the river during navigation season, with slopes of 1 vertical to 5 horizontal to 1 vertical to 10 horizontal and two to three islands in the middle. The project also involves dredging 150,000 cy of sediments and organic matter from the bottom of a nearby wetland call Great Marsh, and to dredge rarely inundated lowlands around its margin. The exisiting Great Marshal wetland is very shallow in normal conditions. The dredging will deepen the marshal and expand the area of the marsh into former portions of the marshal which have become filled the sediments. All dredged materials will be discarded into the Missouri River. The estimated construction cost of this project is between $2,500,000 and $5,000,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required to commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and complete the work 360 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure to complete the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be required. Bid sets will be available on/a December 20, 1995. Half-size plans and specifications will be furnished upon request.
