A -- REPOSITORY OF MOUSE MODELS FOR CYTOGENETIC DISORDERS Sol RFP-NICHD-CRMC-96-04, contact Mrs. Dorothy McKelvin, 301/496-4611. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement for continuing development of a repository for the production, maintenance, and distribution of aneuploid mice. This work is currently being conducted under contract number N)1-HD-1-3131 with The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine. The NICHD intends to continue this contract with The Jackson Laboratory by using other than full and open competition. The purpose of the contract is to refine methodologies to produce segmental (partial) trisomies and improve the production of chimeric mice with a trisomic 16 component. More specific responsibilities will include breeding various strains of mice to produce trisomic or monosomic embryos with emphasis on chromosome 16, freezing, rescuing, and re-implanting embryos into pseudo-pregnant mice, continue developing methods to improve the production of chimeric mice with a trisomic component, and distributing the mice to requestors. Special emphasis will be made on the production, characterization, and distribution of single gene transgenics and YAC transgenics utilizing segments of human chromosome 21. The determination to use other than full and open competition was made in accordance with 41 USC 253 (c)(1), FAR 6.302-1. The purpose of this synopsis is to determine whether there are other sources capable of meeting the Government's requirements as described above. Capability statements should be submitted within 45 days of publication of this synopsis and include details specifying how they would carry-out this work.
