The Gemini 8-m Telescopes Project has been commissioned to design and build two astronomical observatories, one on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, USA, the other on Cerro Pachon in Chile. Qualified firms or consortiums are currently being sought to design, procure, assemble, test and commission two Acquisition and Guidance Units. These units contain high precision opto-mechanics with associated high precision control systems. The space envelope for each unit is 1.4m diameter by 1.7m high, mass is estimated at 1.5 tonne. The contract value is estimated at 1.5 million U.S. dollars.
