07703-5008 60 -- FIBER OPTICS MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS, ASSEMBLIES AND
ACCESSORIES SOL DAAB07-96-R-L501 DUE 012096 POC Patricia Boos, Contract
Specialist (908)532-4042 Julianne Magee, Contracting Officer,
(908)532-4042. Acquisition of standardized tri-service fiber optic
modems for installation in Defense Satellite Communications System
(DSCS) Interconnect Facilities (ICF's) worldwide. The modems primary
use is to provide a fiber optic interface of multiple baseband signals
between a satellite earth terminal and technical control facilityll
This equipoment will provide for more efficient operations and
increased system capacity for both strategic and tactical users. This
project will enable the sercices to upgrade their ICF's by installing
standardized state-of-the-art fiber optic modems. These modems will
replace current equipment that has become or is rapidly becoming
unsupportable. The baseband data rates are High Speed, 16 KBPS-20 MBS,
(Symmetrical/asymmetrical); Low Speed (Synchronous) DC-20 MBS; T1:
1.544 MBPS, E1: 2.048 MBPS; Low Speed (Asynchronous), 75 BPS
(Symmetrical/Asymmetrical); AND T3 Data Rates, 44.736 MBPS. The modem
system shall be capable of transmitting and receiving digital data
between DSCS components. The modem shall be of a plug in modular design
and mountable in standard 19 inch wide equipment cabinet. The modular
design shall allow the number and tupes of circuits to be adjusted in
order to meet site specific requirements. AC POWER: The modem shall
operate from single phase alternating current (AC) at 120 volts at a
frequency of 50 Hertz (HZ) OR 60 HZ. DC POWER: The modem shall operate
from -44 TO 56 VDC. The modem shall operate over government provided
multimode or single-mode fiber. The modem shall be able to operate over
multimode fiber of up to 5 Kilometers in length and be capable of
communicating over single-mode fiber for a distance of up to 25
Kilometers. The request for proposal (RFP) will be released via CECOM'S
Electronic Bulletin Board (EBB). No hard copies will be distributed. To
become a user of the EBB you will need an identification code and
password in addition to a computer terminal equipped with the necessary
hardware and software to interface with the EBB system. Detailed
information regarding system requirements is contained in the US ARMY
CECOM EBB ser's manual. A uerr's manual, identification code and
password will be issued upon requrst. All requests must include 1)
Company name, 2) point(s) of contact name(s) and title(s) 3) return
addresa(es) and 4) telephone number(s). Please send your request in
writing to either Mr. Thomad Newman or Mrs. Anita McGhee, US ARMY
