The 3050 version of the implementation conventions will be used which allows for the transmission of more complex procurements. Our goal is to fully implement EDI within the next two years and use it as a way of doing business. Phase I will implement the 3050 version of the 840, 843, 850 and 860 transaction sets and the 3040 version of the 838. Phase I EDI transaction sets will be tested in January 1996 and operational in March 1996. Please contact one of the persons listed in block #11 of this announcement if you are interested in participating in the testing process. MICOM is conducting orientation sessions for its contractors in January 1996. These sessions are designed to acquaint MICOM contractors with doing business electronically, the Atlanta Electronic Commerce Resource Center (ECRC) will present the course ``Business Opportunities with the DoD through EDI'' and MICOM representatives will discuss MICOM/AMC progress in implementation of EDI. Topics to be discussed include: What is EDI?; Highlights of the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act (FASA) and the Federal Acquisition Computer Network (FACNET); Functions of a Value Added Network (VAN/Value Added Service (VAS); Selection of a VAN/VAS and EDI Software; Centralized Trading Partner Registration Process; and Benefits of EDI. These sessions are open to anyone interested in doing business with MICOM and other Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs) within AMC.
