COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 13,1995 PSA#1489Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Procurement Department, L-443,
P. O. Box 5012, Livermore, CA 94551 59 -- LARGE SCALE HIGH VOLTAGE CAPACITORS POC Margaret Cooke, Senior
Subcontract Administrator (510) 423-2178 The University of California
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), in collaboration with
Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque (SNLA) and as representatives
of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Project, a multi-laboratory
effort of the Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking manufacturing
sources for large scale High Voltage Capacitors to be used to power
flashlamps used in large Nd:glass amplifiers for the NIF lasers. These
capacitors will be single bushing configuration with a grounded case
terminal and have maximum physical dimensions of: 91cm (36'') long, a
bushing face of 41cm (16'') wide x 41cm (16'') high and a bushing
height of 5cm (2'') maximum from the bushing face. They must be of the
self healing dielectric system type. Electrical characteristics of the
capacitors are: Capacitance: 290 microfarads, +10%, -5%. The nominal
charge voltage: 24kV. The normal output current must be 26 kA, 1/2-sine
discharge, less than 10% reversal. The fault output current must be 85
kA, ringing discharge, 60% reversal on first cycle. The output pulse
width must be 360 microseconds. The Internal Resistance: less than 5
milliohms at 1.4kHz. Internal Inductance: less than 1 microhenry.
Operating life must be at least 20,000 charge cycles normal operation,
plus 25 charge cycles fault mode operation. Required operating
repetition rate: 1 charge cycle per 15 minutes. Desired repetition
rate: One charge cycle per minute. Maximum charge time: 60 seconds.
Maximum hold time: 15 seconds. Approximately 4000 of these capacitors
are required for NIF. Interested firms must respond with a written
statement of capabilities, available resources, and qualifications.
Respondents must also include information which documents past
capability to manufacture similar capacitors of this type and size.
Test data on such units must be provided to LLNL upon request.
Responses which include the required information must be received by
LLNL on or before January 10, 1996. Firms responding to this
announcement that fail to provide all the required documentation will
not be solicited for a proposal. Facsimile and telephone responses will
not be accepted. The small business size standrd applicable to the
proposed acquisition is SIC 3629, or 500 employees. Firms qualifying as
a small business with respect to this standard should so state. This
notice is to assist the University in determining the potential for
competition; no solicitation is currently available, nor is funding
currently allocated for this requirement. This synopsis will be used
only as part of the market survey process. Again, no solicitation is
currently available, and there is no currently planned release date for
one should one be developed. (0345) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0248 19951212\59-0016.SOL)
