59 -- LARGE SCALE HIGH VOLTAGE POWER SUPPLIES POC Margaret Cooke, Senior Subcontract Administrator (510) 423-2178 The University of California Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), in collaboration with Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque (SNLA) and as representatives of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Project, a multi-laboratory effort of the Department Of Energy (DOE), is seeking manufacturing sources for large scale High Voltage Power Supplies. These Power Supplies will be used to charge Capacitors in banks that trigger flashlamps used for large Nd:glass amplifiers for the NIF lasers. These power supplies must have an adjustable Positive Output Voltage from less than 10kV to 24kV. The Output Charging Rate must charge a 1.7 Megajoule (MJ) capacitor bank to 24kV in less than 35 seconds. The Operational Repetition Rate must be 1 charge cycle per 15 minutes with a desired test rate of 1 charge cycle per 2 minutes. The Charge Voltage Regulation Stability must be +/- 0.1% cycle-to-cycle. The Input Voltage will be 480 VAC. Remote Control Interface: Analog interface with standard functions (to be determined). Efficiency: Power supplies must operate at greater than 85% efficiency with a power factor of greater than 0.85. Physical Dimensions: These supplies must be of standard 19 inch rack mountable chassis configuration, not greater than 36.75'' vertical space and not more than 30'' depth required with side mounted rack sliders installed. Approximately 200 of these supplies, plus spares, are required for NIF. Interested firms must respond with a written statement of capabilities, available resources, and qualifications. Respondents must also include information which documents past capability to manufacture similar capacitors of this type and size. Test data on such units must be provided to LLNL upon request. Responses which include the required information must be received by LLNL on or before January 10, 1996. Firms responding to this announcement that fail to provide all the required documentation will not be solicited for a proposal. Facsimile and telephone responses will not be accepted. The small business size standard applicable to the proposed acquisition is SIC 3629, or 500 employees. Firms qualifying as a small business with respect to ths standard should so state. This notice is to assist the University in determining the potential for competition; no solicitation is currently available, nor is funding currently allocated for this requirement.
