In accordance with Directorate of Metrology Purchase Description, 96MLEEDSM02, dated 28 August 1995. The purchase description details the requirements for a frequency standard based on the Global Positioning System (GPS). This GPS receiver is to be used as the frequency standard for the Directorate of Metrology's Portable Automatic Test Equipment Calibrator (PATEC) systems. The purpose of the PATEC system is to perform on-site calibration of test systems. The GPS receiver will be connected to an antenna while in the calibration laboratory, disconnected from the antenna and AC power for transport, and reconnected to an antenna impractical. This requirement drives the need for an instrument with a high quality crystal base to maintain the frequency specification. The instrument described herein is a GPS receiver optimized for use as a frequency standard. The GPS receiver is to be a rack mounted item with and excellent crystal base, battery backup, and an external antenna. Issue date will be approximately 18 Dec 95.
