The Office of Naval Research has a requirement for continued research and development of mission essential vaccines under the Navy's Malaria Research Program and Malaria Vaccine Development Program. It is anticipated that sole source negotiations will be conducted with the Biomedical Research Institute, 12111 Parklawn Drive, Rockville, MD 20852 because they are uniquely qualified to perfom this effort since they are the only facility that maintains the necessary insectaries within the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area. Due to the sensitivity of the mosquitoes to temperature, humidity, and stress, land and/or air shipment is impossible and requires that the laboratory be within the Washington, D.C. area.
