Service is seeking sources to provide a portable hand-held contrband
detector. The detector must use gamma ray backscatter technology with
a radioactive source of Barium 133 (with a half-life of 11 years) not
to exceed 100uCi. The depth of scan ranges up to 7 inches. This device
will be used by Customs Inspectors in locating hidden contrband inside
an object where the inspectors eye can only see the surface of the
object. It will also aid the Customs Inspector in determining that no
contrband is present. All interested parties should submit information
regarding their equipment to the address shown above not later than
