COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 20,1995 PSA#1494Department of the Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command, Code 03M1, Room
1E60, 2531 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, VA 22242-5160 80 -- BALLAST TANK COATING SOL 0001-C-73. Due 010596. Point of
Contact, Mr. John Tock, 703/602-0214. The Naval Sea Systems Command is
preparing a program to validate proposed performance changes for
MIL-P-23236. The proposed changes will incorporate the use of 100% or
near 100% solids epoxy-based coatings which demonstrate a minimum of
70% thickness retention on edges, sharp (90 degree) corners and welds.
Coatings shall have a minimum of 95% solids by volume and contain less
than 5% VOC. Coating shall be capable of being applied using either
conventional or airless spray application equipment. This is not an R&D
effort. The purpose of this program is to validate performance only.
Coatings must demonstrate prior acceptability under both similar
MIL-P-23236-like exposure conditions and in thickness retention in
order to qualify as a potential QPL candidate. The Naval Sea Systems
Command intends to facilitate the use of this coating in the immediate
future. Potential sources are requested to send information within 30
days of publication date of this periodical. (349) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0314 19951219\80-0001.SOL)
