16 -- FY96 USN (SUPPLEMENTAL) AND FY97 FMS (OPTIONAL) FOR F404-GE402 ENGINE POC Contact, LCDR Doug Borrebach, Phone (703)604-6100 Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to procure twelve (12) FY96 (supplemental) F404-GE-402 engines (or such other quantities as COngress may authorize and fund) for the US Navy and potentially fifty-four (54) FY97 F404-GE-402 engines and nine (9) F404-GE-402 engine modules (or such other quantities determined by appropriate Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) between the US Government and foreign governments) for foreign military sales. The Naval Air Systems Command intends to negotiate with General Electric Aircraft Engines (GEAE), 1000 Western Avenue, Lynn, MA 01910-5000, the sole designer, developer and manufacturer of the F404-GE-402 engine, for the requisite supplies/services. GEAE is the only source with the requisite knowledge of the F404-GE-402 engine design, manufacturer, operation and maintenance necessary to meet the above described supplies/services. Furthermore, only GEAE has the facilities, tooling and special test equipment required to produced the F404-GE-402 engine and associated modules. See note No. 22 - NAVAIR Synopsis No. 20203-95.
