Edgewood research, development and engineering Center has a requirement
for the production of chemical protective hoods (10,000). This Hood
constitutes part of a full protective ensemble which will be worn by
emergency responders in the event of an accidental release of toxic
chemical agents. This Hood will cover and protect the wearer'S head
andshoulders. Key system performance requirements and critical
characteristics include the following: 1) the Hood will be made of
Butyl Rubber coated nylon cloth. 2) the Butyl Rubber coated cloth will
have aminimum weight of 6.8 ounces and a maximum of 8.0 ounces per
square Yard.3) the Hood must interface with the following four
Commercial poweredairpurifying respirators (paprs): Mine safety
appliances, Inc., part NO.494236; racal Health & safety, Inc., part NO.
520-01-98; survivair, Inc., part NO. 5400-00; and Cabot safety
products, part NO. RP51a. 4) the Hood must be able to be secured to the
eye lenses and air hoses of all four specified paprs. 5) fabric seams
will be stitched and sealed using heatactivated/bonded adhesive and
tape reinforcements which meet requirements for a life support system.
6) the Hood must meet toxic chemical agentimpermeability requirements.
The contractor must have the capability to deliver 400 units per month
after approval of first firms responding to this announcement and
should reference the Solicitation number. Solicitation will be issued
on or about 1 Feb 1996. This is a 100% small business setaside. SIC
Code 3069 applies. All requests for a copy of the Solicitation must be
