The Coastal Systems Station, Dahlgren Division, NSWC, has a requirement for both engines on a PSC-8 boat to be rebuilt. The boat is 65 feet long and weighs 75 tons. The model number of the engines is 12U-71TA (585 bhps). The contractor can use remanufactured parts in rebuilding the engines. Dyno testing must be performed and witnessed by a Government Quality Assurance (QA) representative. The work can be performed pierside or at a boatyard; however, due to the expense of transporting the boat and the need for interaction with Government QA personnel, the work must be performed at a location that is within two hours of the Coastal Systems Station at normal cruising speed.
