36 -- AQUEOUS CLEANING SYSTEM FOR ARRESTING GEAR CABLE SOL N68335-96-RFI-604 DUE 021396 POC Ms. Jennifer Vaccaro Code 213JV, (908) 323-5129. Buyer/Contracting Officer is J. Reidinger. This is a request for information only. There is no solicitation package available. The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Lakehurst, is seeking sources and/or information for an aqueous cleaning system to handle the special requirements for cleaning arresting gear cable. The unit will be used to clean the end of the 1-7/16 inch cable as part of the process to replace the terminal on the end of the cable. Prior to cleaning, the individual wires of the cable strand are separated, or ''broomed''. The wire broom is 10 inches in diameter at the bitter end. A 12 to 16 inch length of the cable requires cleaning. This unit will be utilized aboard aircraft carriers. The following capabilities are desired. The unit will have a cleaning and a rinse tank. The cleaning material is an aqueous emulsion terpene-based commercial cleaner. The rinse is fresh water. Both tanks must have independent internal heaters and temperature controls. Both tanks must have the capability to be continuously skimmed so the soil residue can be filtered for collection and disposal. Cleaning will be enhanced by submersed nozzles or ultrasonic transducers. A desired option would be a separate spray lance to remove stubborn soil. A desired option is an integral support that can be used to clamp the cable in place during the cleaning or the rinse cycle. Because of limited space, a footprint area for the unit of 24 inches by 48 inches is necessary. Power can be either 110V or 440V AC. Compressed air service at 60 to 90 psi is available. Respondents to this request for information are invited to submit a statement of general interest, a description of any currently available unit which meets our requirements and/or a discussion on the feasibility of the above described unit. Any comments provided may/may not be included in a formal solicitation. The Government will not pay for any information received in response to this RFI nor will the Government compensate any respondent for any costs incurred in developing the information provided to the Government.
