A -- ORFEUS-SPAS II MISSION GUEST INVESTIGATOR PROGRAM SOL NRA 95-OSS-01 POC Jim Debelius, Contract Specialist, (301) 286-2028. This is a notice of intent to issue NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NRA 95-OSS-01 in or about January 8, 1996. NRA 95-OSS-01 solicits basic research proposals for participation in the joint NASA and German Space Agency (DARA) program to acquire scientific data from the ORFEUS-SPAS II mission. The ORFEUS-SPAS II mission is currently scheduled to fly aboard STS-80 in November 1996. It is baselined for a 16-day dedicated mission which would permit up to 14 days of science operations during free-flight. There are three instruments on ORFEUS-SPAS II which are designed to provide astronomical ultraviolet spectroscopic observations over the wavelength range from 40 to 125 nanometers. The data analysis portion of this effort will be for approximately one year after conclusion of the ORFEUS-SPAS II mission. Participation in this program is open to all categories of organizations, domestic and foreign, including educational institutions, profit and non-profit organizations, NASA Centers, and other Government agencies.
