The U.S Army (PM NV/RSTA) is planning to request proposals for the procurement of an improved AN/PXX-X- Target Acquisition System (TAS). A draft Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued late Spring 1996, with the formal RFP issued late summer for a planned November 1997 award. Quantities to be procured are expected to be approximately 336 in FY97 and FY98 with 100% options in each year. The TAS is an image intensifier based rifle sight with integral laser diode illumination. Time gating allows the sight to be used both day and night. The image intensifier/laser diode combination has the capability of finding optical targets at 2,500 meters during the day and over 3,000 meters at night. The current TAS in-hand weight is approximately 7 pounds. A separate power supply that uses a BA-5590 battery is also provided. Improvements planned for this contract are lower in-hand weight.
