NOTE: Do not request a copy of the solicitation -- No solicitation
exists -- Firms that have the capability to provide the mass storage
system are invited to submit detailed information described -- Sources
are sought for the Mass Storage subsystem of the Payload Data Services
System (PDSS), which is part of the Enhanced Huntsville Operations
Support Center (EHS) of Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) -- The Mass
Storage subsystem will archive International Space Station (ISS)
payload data for retrieval and distribution for up to 2 years after
data acquisition -- Data will be archived at burst data rates up to 67
Mb/s and at average data rate of 2.5 Mb/s -- Total system capacity is
approximately 37 Tbytes which includes protocol overhead and a 50
percent reserve margin -- Data will be distributed to users and
investigators on demand -- The Mass Storage subsystem is required to
service as many as 75 requests for archived data per day -- Each
retrieval request nominally will be for 6 Gbytes of data -- Data will
be required to be available on-line -- As a component of the PDSS, the
Mass Storage subsystem must operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
in an unattended, ''lights-out'' operation -- The Mass Storage
subsystem must include the capability to perform remote status
monitoring and control functions -- The components of the Mass Storage
subsystem are: 1) a data processing unit (or units) and associated
peripheral devices that acquire data from the real-time PDSS functions,
prepare the data for archival, and process requests for data retrieval;
2) data storage software for optimizing the data for retrieval; 3)
self-contained device to handle the storage and retrieval of physical
media; 4) I/O interfaces to other PDSS configuration items; 5) software
support tools (compilers, operating systems, communications software,
etc.); and 6) cabinets and support equipment -- The SIC code and small
business size standard for this acquisition are 3572 and 1000
employees respectively -- Transmission by facsimile to 205-544-9080 or

responsible business sources are requested to submit a summary of
interests, qualifications, and capabilities, along with a detailed
presentation of proposed technical approach (including system
configuration) and an estimated cost -- No additional information
regarding this requirement can be furnished -- Firms interested in
subcontracting opportunities, including small disadvantage business
subcontracting opportunities, should indicate such in their submission
-- This announcement is being issued to ascertain if sufficient
qualified sources capable of satisfying this requirement exist to
enable issuance of a competitive solicitation -- Therefore, potential
sources must respond in writing and provide complete information
requested -- The information must be furnished to the above address no
later than 15 days after publication of this notice -- Respondents
will not be notified of the results of the evaluation of the
information submitted, but the sources deemed fully qualified will be
considered if requests for proposals are solicited -- Requests for
consideration must state whether your firm is large or small and that
your firm is not currently on the consolidated List of Parties Excluded
from Federal Procurement or Nonprocurement Programs -- Any documents
