HQ Electronic System Center, Engineering and Program Management Directorate (ESC/ENS), 5 Eglin St., Hanscom AFB, MA 01731-2116

70 -- COMMAND AND CONTROL PRODUCT LINE PRODUCT LIST POC Suitability Testing Representative, 1-800-495-3877. The Air Force Electronic Systems Center (ESC) at Hanscom AFB is in the process of implementing a product line based acquisition strategy that leverages extensive reuse of large-scale software components. For the various component areas that make up the generic command center architecture (GCCA) developed under the PRISM Program, ESC will determine suitability of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and government-off-the-shelf (GOTS) software products. This approach was described in CBD announcement PSA-1493, Section 58, December 19,1995. Two ESC sponsored efforts are supporting the suitability activities: the Comprehensive Approach to Reusable Defense Software (CARDS) Program and the National Product Line Asset Center (NPLACE). CARDS activities include developing and maintaining product line component area criteria, conducting market surveys, and performing across-product line analyses of available software products. NPLACE activities include acquiring software from vendors for evaluation, testing for suitability against product line requirements and architectural constraints, and making software products available through distribution channels. Suitability criteria have been established to determine the suitability of products for placement in the Command Center Product Line Product List (PLPL). As software products complete the product suitability process, suitability information will be placed in the NPLACE repository for future reference and use by the acquisition/development community. The CARDS (http://www.cards.com) home page contains information about the program. Suitability criteria for Network Managers, the first component area to be addressed, can be found at: http://www.cards.com/criteria, or by contacting: NPLACE Attn: Network Manager Criteria Representative 100 University Drive, Fairmont WV 26554, 1-800-495-3877 All interested parties are encouraged to provide comments within thirty (30) days of the date of this CBD release. Your comments can be provided to the address above, or electronically through the WWW at http://www.cards.com/criteria/Criteria/Network_Manager.html The Government reserves the right to make the final decision as to the disposition of the comments on suitability criteria for a component area.
