70 -- EXCHANGE OF GOVERNMENT -OWNED TAPE CARTRIDGE EQUIPMENT POC Henry H. Smith, Contracting Officer, (202)283-1354. The Internal Revenue Servic intends to modify Contract No. Tir-91-0072 with the Memorex-Telex Corporation to allow for the exchange of Government-owned cartridge equipment located at the IRS's Computing Center in Martinsburg, WV. The value received from the contractor for the equipment will be applied toward the upgrade of some of the Center's remaining Memorex tape cartridge equipment to ESCON and 36-track capability. The equiment available for exchange consists of 30 Memorex Model 5491 Tape Controller units and 40 Memorex Model 5490 Tape Drives with Automatic Cartridge Loaders. This equipment was acquired within the past five year as new or refurbished as new. It has been under continous maintenance by the OEM and is eligible for OEM certification of maintainability. The equipment is currently available for release. The replacement/upgrade equipment shall consist of ESCON upgrades for two Model 5491 Tape Controller units (two ESCON channels per 5491), and 36-track upgrades for two Model 5491 Tape Controller units and sixteen Model 5490 Tape drives. The Government will be responsible for the deinstallation and preparation of the equipment for shipment. The Contractor shall be responsible for its shipment from the IRS Center. The Contractor shall be responsible for the installation of the upgrades, which shall be completed within 60 days after receipt of the order. Interested vendors must submit written responses, including price and technical data sufficient to assess capability to meet the requirement. No order will be made on the basis of any responses to this notice since the synopsis is not considered a solicitation document. If n responses are received within 30 days of this notice which demonstrates the ability to meet this requirement, the transaction will be conducted with Memorex-Telex Corporation. See Note 22.
