COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JANUARY 23,1996 PSA#1515National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSCS, 6120
Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, MSC 7228, Bethesda MD 20892-7228 66 -- CONFOCAL IMAGING SYSTEM WITH KYPTON/ARGON LASER SOL
NO2-BC-66206-83 POC Sarah Payne, Contracting Specialist or Janet
Mattson, Contracting Officer, 301-402-4509. The National Cancer
Institute requires delivery and installation of a Confocal Imaging
System including Kypton/Argon Laser. The Confocal Imaging System shall
meet or exceed the following: 1) Shall be capable of scanning, point
detecting laser scanning, confocal imaging and adapt to an existing
Nikon Optiphot-2 microscope. 2) Shall have a single laser that will
allow imaging at multiple wavelengths including 488nm, 568nm, and
647nm. This shall include a filter set to optimize separation of these,
three wavelengths each permitting 10% or less excitation in competing
channels. 3) Shall provide high speed digital photon counting for low
intensity specimens and enhanced photomultiplier tubes for high
sensitivity. 4) Shall provide for ease of use in multi-user
laboratories because gain, black level, aperture, neutral density
filters, excitation filters and emission filters, are computer
controlled. Computer shall provide automatic set up for a given
experiment from preset methods with one click of an icon. 5) Shall
provide variable scan speeds, real time image averaging, line scanning
mode, optical zoom capability, and fiber optic cable delivery of the
laser line. 6) Shall be compatible with peripheral components such as
printers, optical drives and workstations that may be added in the
future as the use of the system grows. 7) The contractor shall insure
that the existing microscope is laser safe prior to initial startup. 8)
Shall have 8 bit color resolution minimum per channel and permit
overlaying of images with 24 bit resolution. 9) Shall have kalman
averaging to increase sensitivity and reduce background. This shall
permit real or near real time visualization of the collected images.
10) The disk drive shall be rewritable, and store up to one and half
gigabytes per 5 1/2 inch disk with a SCSI interface compatible with
DOS, Windows, and OS/2. 11) Shall have a minimum of three sensitivity
enhanced photomultiplier tubes having computer controlled, continuously
variable confocal aperture which shall allow for simultaneous display
of three fluorophores and a live merged image of the three fluorophores
on a 21 inch monitor with a resolution of 1280 X 1024 X 24 bits. 12)
Shall include integrated volume rendering software that shall
manipulate 24 bit data sets and provide quantitative analysis of the
data sets. The software shall be able to rotate and tilt images around
any angle and be able to slice through data sets at an oblique angle
and also provide features such as variable opacity renderings and a
seed fill function. 13) Shall have a computer controlled sequential
collection mode to eliminate bleed through and overlapping a detector
channel. 14) Shall have the option of being adaptable to other research
grade upright or inverted microscopes from various manufacturers to
provide future flexibility. 15) Shall include acquisition and analysis
software that runs 32 bit megabytes of RAM and 1 gigabyte of hard disk
space. All responsible sources may submit a bid which shall be
considered by the agency. The solicitation will be issued on or about
February 12, 1996. Closing will be 30 days after issue date. (0019) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0261 19960122\66-0001.SOL)
