Ronald F. Anielak (816) 426-7267 extension 226 The National Marine
Fisheries Service, SEFC Charleston Laboratory, Charleston, South
Carolina has a need for a GEL IMAGING AND ANALYSIS SYSTEM. GENERAL:A)
gel imaging system must run in a networked UNIX environment under one
of the following operating systems: Solaris 2.x(Sun OS 5.4) or Silicon
Graphics Irix 5.3. B) The new system must use X-windows displays so
that it may be employed from remotely networked X-terminal servers. C)
The system shall be capable of analyzing one-dimensional
electrophoretic gels, two-dimensional electrophoretic/isoelectric
focusing gels, and DNA/RNA sequencing gels. It shall provide for the
convenient export of these images and the analyses performed thereon to
a data base. D) Installation and on-site training for the system shall
be provided. E) Technical service shall be provided within 24 hours of
request. SPECIFIC: A) Hardware, 1) The imaging system shall provide a
camera with a resolution of at least 1000 X 1000 pixels. 2) The field
of view covered by the camera shall be variable up to a maximum of 24
CM X 24 cm. 3) The camera shall be controlled by the software and
include a parallel interface card and cable connections to Sun
SPARCstation platforms. B) Software, 1) The system shall contain image
acquisition software compatible with the above camera specifications
and UNIX environment. 2) The system shall provide data files in a
readily exportable form for incorporation into other data base and
analysis programs. 3) The system shall be capable of handling
multiplexed images (i.e., multiple, superimposed images of the same gel
each containing different information). 4) The system for
electrophoretic gel analysis shall be capable of comparing unknown to
known references of molecular weight, nucleotide base length, or
isoelectric point and calculating the molecular weight, fragment
length, or isoelectric point of an electrophoretic band based on these
standards. 5) The system shall be capable of quantifying the amount of
material in a band (for example, as represented by the density of that
band).6) The DNA sequencing software shall permit automatic and manual
lane detection, automatic band detection, and automatic lane
registration to adjust for gel distortion. Such software shall also
permit editing by the user. 7) Reports for sequences should be
exportable to data bases including GenBank, EMBL, Intelligenetics, GCG,
Wisconsin, and MacVector. Delivery 45 calendar days ARO. FOB
Destination. Only written requests to receive a copy of RFQ number
NFFN2800600348RA will be accepted and shall include a point of contact,
phone number, fax number, and mailing address. Facsimile requests to
816-426-7530 will be accepted; however receipt by the government is the
responsibility of the sender. If there are no affirmative responses, a
purchase order will be issued to Bio Image, Ann Arbor, MI. All
responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by
the agency. (0019) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0262 19960122\66-0002.SOL)
