The Department of Energy (DOE) has approved the award of a sole source subcontract under its Prime Contract No. DE-AC36-83CH10093 with the Midwest Research Institute (MRI), to the Chrysler Corporation under DOE's U.S. Hybrid Propulsion System Development Program. The approval was made on the basis that Chrysler Corporation is the ''only responsible source'' pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, and therefore full and open competition need not be provided for. The effort is for the development of a production feasible hybrid propulsion vehicle system alternative that contributes to the goals of the government-industry partnership known as the ''Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles'' while satisfying funding stipulations requiring domestic R&D resources combined with large scale manufacturing capability.
