Service (WORLDNET TV) is the United States Government's world-wide
television service and a major component of the United States
Information Agency's (USIA) International Broadcasting Bureau. WORLDNET
transmits a 24-hour signal to over 200 countries around the world.
Approximately 1000 international cable operations utilize WORLDNET as
a full time cable channel on their systems. Additionally, WORLDNET
programming is regularly placed on broadcast TV outlets in virtually
every country in the world. WORLDNET's mission is to enhance the public
diplomacy aspect of USIA's global mission. This is accomplished through
programming that supports general U.S. policy objectives. WORLDNET's
daily schedule contains programs on Economics and the Marketplace,
Democracy: Process and Politics, The Environment and Technology,
Medicine and Health, News and Public Affairs, Society and Culture and
U.S. Business Issues and Products. WORLDNET seeks to explore a variety
of possible arrangements with private sector, non-commercial and other
governmental organizations. WORLDNET welcomes proposals for joint
ventures, corporate underwriting and other relationships designed to
further its mission while reducing the expenditure of taxpayer dollars.
The Agency is authorize, pursuant to 22 U.S.C. 1437, to encourage and
utilize private agencies' participation, including existing American
press, television, cable, et.al., in carrying out its mission.
Accordingly, the U.S. Information Agency and its International
Broadcasting Bureau are seeking private sector participation for
various WORLDNET programs and program services. It is specifically
interested in exploring proposals from companies that would like to
provide financing for program activities and from program
producers/distributors seeking international exposure for their
