The Corps of Engineers has a need for a contract to be performed at Braddock, 11.2 river miles upstream of the Point in Pittsburgh for the complete removal of the steel superstructure, to include miscellaneous metal items such as handrail, walkways and grating, ladders and safety baskets, corrugated roofing, approximately 100 tons; removal of reinforced concrete piers and supports; mechanical and electrical items such as, main and auxiliary crane hoists, electrical wiring, fixtures, conduits and communication cables. The modifications to the existing upper guard cell wall includes demolition and replacement of existing reinforced concrete cell caps; removal and disposal of existing miscellaneous metal items including, footbridges, pipe guards; check posts and other items; relocation and reinstallation of existing signs, navigation lights and air horn; partial removal of existing cell fill; removal and disposal of existing timber fenders; furnishing and installing new items such as structural steel plates, pipes, and shapes required for new work, polyethylene fender pads, footbridges, miscellaneous metals, grating, guard fencing, electric conduits, cables and lighting; installation of Government-furnished check posts; refilling cells using new cell fill material and painting. Construction of the new upper guard wall extension includes pre-excavation (dredging) sediments from the river bed; driving Government-furnished steel (PS31) sheet piles to construct five (5) 31'-4'' diameter cells and one (1) 37'-7'' diameter end cell; installing Government-furnished (PS31) sheet piles for curtain walls, furnishing and installing new fender support framing including steel H-piles and steel members; furnishing and installing new items including polyethylene fender pads, impact absorbing bumpers, footbridges, miscellaneous metals, grating, guard fencing, conduits, cables and lighting; furnishing and placing new granular cell fill material; furnishing and placing tremie concrete cell fill in end cell; installation of Government-furnished check posts; placement of new reinforced concrete cell caps and painting. Magnitude of project is $1,000,000 - $5,000,000; Complete within 400 days; Specifications will be available approximately 020796 at a charge of $53 for full size drawings and $27 for half size drawings.
