This synopsis modifies the synopsis published on 11/18/94. Solicitation DAAL01-95-R-ARL BAA is amended to read as follows: Proposals are requested involving innovative approaches to development of a rapid prototyping process using high power lasers to facilitate the direct formation of three dimensional titanium and titanium alloy near shapes from titanium powder in one step from electronic-part drawing to final article. Overall goal is the elimination of technological barriers in processing (shaping) of titanium structures to allow this critical defense-related material to be used in defense systems. The approach is to not require molds, dies, vacuums, or autoclave equipment and greatly speed up the time of titanium processing while greatly reducing costs.
