POCs: John Kuminski, Contracting Officer, Phone (216) 433-2453; Leo
Burkardt, Technical POC, Phone (216) 977-7021. NASA plans to initiate
cooperative project(s) with industry for the development and
demonstration of light-weight, innovative intermittent combustion (IC)
propulsion system(s) under the General Aviation X-Plane Program
(GAXP). The overall goal of the GAXP is to develop and
flight-demonstrate revolutionary propulsion systems for general
aviation aircraft. The specific objectives of the IC Propulsion System
Element are to develop technologies and manufacturing processes for
low cost, environmentally compliant, innovative propulsion systems, and
to flight demonstrate a prototype system. NASA emphasizes partnering
and cost-sharing with industry in an effort to revitalize the U.S.
General Aviation Light Aircraft Industry. NASA plans to release a draft
copy of the Cooperative Agreement Notice (CAN) for industry review in
about one month, followed shortly by a formal release and call for
proposals to competitively procure cooperative arrangements with
industry members. Interested parties should direct initial comments
and, if desired, provide input to the draft CAN by COB February 16,
1996, to Mr. Leo Burkardt at NASA Lewis Research Center, M.S. 77-2,
21000 Brookpark Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44135, Phone: (216) 977-7021,
Fax: (216) 977-7008, e-mail: L_Burkardt@comsrv.lerc.nasa.gov. Effective
October 1, 1995, the Internet will be the only source of NASA Lewis
Research Center MidRange synopsis and solicitations. Other synopses
will continue to be published in the CBD as well as the Internet.
