A -- EFFECTIVENESS TRIAL OF KILLED ORAL CHOLERA VACCINE IN CENTRAL COASTAL VIETNAM Sol. RFP-NICHD-DESPR-96-06. Contact Mrs. Dorothy McKelvin, 301/496-4611. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) intends to negotiate with the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to award a three year contract. The purpose of the contract will be to conduct an effectiveness trial of an oral, killed whole cell vaccine against Vibrio cholerae 01 and 0139, produced by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam. The aims of this trial area to simulate a public health program of vaccination against cholera, using this vaccine, and to estimate the costs and effects of this vaccination strategy. The trial will be conducted in the Nha Trang and Ninh Hoa districts of the Khanh Hoa Province, located in central coastal Vietnam, and will be preceded by the pretest to confirm the safety and immunogenicity of the lots of vaccine in the trial. The determination to use other than full and open competition was made in accordance with 41 USC 253 (c) (1), FAR 6.302-1. The purpose of this synopsis is to determine whether there are other sources capable of meeting the Government's requirements as described above.
