23RD AVE, PORT HUENEME CA 93043-4301 A -- CRANE FATIGUE ASSESSMENT USING ACOUSTIC EMISSIONS TECHNOLOGY SOL
N47408-96-R-6317 DUE 032696 POC Contract Specialist, LORIETA V.
MENDEZ, Code 27117, 805-982-5614 Perform laboratory and field testing
to demonstrate the feasibility of using acoustic emissions technology
to detect and locate fatigue cracks in a truss type crane boom and in
the main hoist dual pinion drive shaft. Develop a test procedure and
demonstrate the feasibility of this technology by performing a full
scale test on a large Navy shipyard portal crane and prepare a
comprehensive report describing the test procedures and the field
demonstration test results. The test procedure shall describe the
method to be used to simulate the fatigue crack, the type and number of
sensors to be used in each test sequence, the method of sensor
attachment, signal analysis techniques, criteria for determining that
acoustic emissions from the simulator have been detected, and safety
procedures. The testing will be performed on a rail mounted portal
crane located at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard, Long Beach, CA. The
crane will have the following characteristics: 50 ton capacity; truss
type boom; boom length, 103 feet from boom pin to main block; height of
boom pin, 35 feet above ground.(0033) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0004 19960205\A-0004.SOL)
