synopsis replaces the synopsis of 30 October 1995 for solicitation
N00178-96-R-4015. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division
intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Intermat of Biddeford,
Maine for the fabrication of carbon-carbon composite shape stable
nosetip (SSNT) billets for submarine launched ballistic missile reentry
system applications. Standard process and low cost process SSNT
materials will be fabricated for use on flight test vehicles. The low
cost process consists of certain modifications to non-critical steps in
the baseline SSNT fabrication process which will be made to reduce
production costs without impacting nosetip flight performance. The
contract will include options for low cost process SSNT material
evaluation. For the purpose of extending the existing material property
database and the ground test and flight test database, the billet
weaving and densification processing cycles must be identical to those
utilized by Intermat's parent company FMI on previous contracts. The
contract period is estimated to be 4 years. See Note 22. (0039) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19960209\A-0002.SOL)
