The Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) intends to contract with Westinghouse Electric Corporation (WEC), Sunnyvale, CA for the FY 97 TRIDENT II (D5) Launcher Hardware Backfit Program. Specifically, WEC will be requested to provide services in support of a production readiness review for D5 Backfit Production during FY 98 and FY 99, to manufacture a D5 production prove-out model, procure D5 production long lead material, and to conduct studies to support and resolve technical issues related to the resumption of D5 hardware production including resolution of environmental issues. WEC is the sole source designer, developer, and producer of the D5 launcher subsystem and is considered the only source capable of providing this requirement within existing cost and schedule limitations.
