36 -- SLEEVE CHEMICAL ETCHING SYSTEM SOL BEP-96-19. Contact Tina B McGuire, Contract Specialist, 202/874-2451. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) plans to issue a solicitation to acquire one (1) sleeve chemical etching system suitable to perform the complete process of producing a chemically etched image on a copper-plated steel intaglio printing press sleeve. Acceptable product will be that which meets or exceeds product currently printed by sleeves prepared by the embossing process. Two different systems are being considered: the first covers a basic system capable of processing 13-inch outside diameter sleeves; the second covers an identical system EXCEPT that a larger printing sleeve is added to the requirements of the first - a decision regarding which system will be procured may be made by the BEP prior to issuance of the solicitation. Included in the requirement are sleeve mounting adapters, training for BEP personnel, spare parts, technical documentation, testing and emergency service. The BEP anticipates issuance of the solicitation on or around March 1, 1996. Please submit a written request for a copy of this solicitation prior to that date.
