The work involves the construction of seven new one-story buildings consisting of: one gymnasium, one operations & maintenance/warehouse building, one administration & medical/dental building, two dormitories, one heavy vocation building, and one cafeteria building; finished site grading, clearing, landscaping; and the provision of associated site utilities including electricity, gas, water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems. The work under this contract (Bid Package A) shall be performed at the same time as the work under a separate contract (Package B) for the construction of an academic education/vocation building to be performed by another contractor also hired by the U.S. Department of Labor. The county of Montgomery will procure a third contractor to perform the overall rough site grading, clearing and grubbing, and the extension of the sewer and water lines from Air Base Boulevard to the site at the Montgomery Job Corps Center located in Montgomery, Alabama. Construction time is scheduled for 434 calendar days. Estimated construction cost range is more than $10,000,000. It is emphasized that requests for plans and specifications shall be directed to the A/E firm listed above to ensure proper handling of requests. All requests must be in writing and a $140 bid deposit is required which is refundable when plans and specifications are returned in good condition. The bid deposit must be in the form of a Certified Check, Cashier's Check or money order and made payable to the U.S. Department of Labor, and submitted to Borden McKean and Payne, Architects at the time of request. All requests will be answered on a first-come, first-serve basis until supplies are exhausted. For requests made after the supply is exhausted, the Contracting Officer may determine whether payment of a fee is warranted. The non-refundable fee shall not exceed the actual cost of duplication of the IFB documents, plus COD charges. A Pre-bid walk-thru is scheduled for March 21, 1996, at 10:00 a.m. local time.
