The Small Business Administration, (SBA) intends to issue a solicitation on or about 03/07/96 for technical support for a data cabling contract. This requirement is for a base year with four option years. The Office of Communications Technology Services, (OCTS) has a requirement for technical support to meet its non-warranty cabling requirements. SBA has a Local Area Network (LAN) that utilizes unshielded twisted pair (UTP) for the horizontal distribution and implements a fiber optic backbone system for the vertical distribution. The cabling system is based on a star-wired topology. The stars are configured for interconnection through the fiber optics backbone to reduce total system downtime. SBA's system has a 10 Base T design. The 10 Base T network wiring is installed on six floors of the Washington Office Center, (WOC) and interfaces between floors with fiber optic cable. The work to be performed shall include initial installation of and on-site maintenance support for SBA cabling plants which shall include relocating data drops, adding new data drops and trouble-shooting cable runs. The contractor shall assess the SBA's current and future data communications environment and evaluate floor plans to determine whether the cabling, wiring, risers, and conduits are adequate for SBA's LAN Systems.
